Master of Science:

Computer Games Programming

Inspiration can blossom from the most unexpected places, and for me, the catalyst was the magical world of video games. Throughout my childhood, I was fascinated by the immersive stories and seemingly endless possibilities video games had to offer. From the thrilling action of StarCraft to the intricate storytelling of Fallout, I experienced firsthand the power of interactive entertainment to captivate and inspire. As I grew older, this fascination transformed into a burning desire to comprehend the creation of these extraordinary journeys. This passion led me to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and a Master’s program in Computer Games Programming at Goldsmiths University of London.

During my undergraduate years, I embarked on a journey to learn more about game development and its intricacies. Though my initial focus was software development, I eventually had the opportunity to delve into graphics programming. In the introductory class, I created a simple game engine using OpenGL and explored the captivating world of the graphics pipeline. As I progressed to advanced graphics classes, I delved into computer animation and had the chance to design and develop my own game engine. These experiences offered me an abundance of knowledge in various graphical techniques, such as deformation, skinning animation with blending, shadow mapping, view frustum culling, and multi-shape texturing.

My primary academic and professional interests lie in low level graphics programming and engine development. I possess skills in software engineering, math, computer architecture, graphics APIs, shader programming, and familiarity with popular engines like Unity and Unreal. Working behind the scenes of games aligns closely with my existing knowledge and long term ambitions.

In addition to my passion for games, I have always possessed a strong creative streak. Writing and storytelling have been integral aspects of my life for as long as I can remember. Whether as the dungeon master for a Dungeons and Dragons group, creating fictional worlds and stories, or drawing inspiration from my parents’ short films and nature documentaries, I have consistently engaged in artistic endeavors. I even took a film class to understand how directors create atmosphere with lighting, frame character perspectives, and employ other techniques that parallel game development. I firmly believe that these skills and background have been invaluable during my career in the games industry.

My combination of technical expertise, passion for gaming, and desire to continually learn and innovate make me an ideal candidate and team member. I am a creative problem solver with a strong work ethic, a quick learner, and am excited to overcome any challenges. I am hardworking, dependable, and energetic, aiming to deepen my knowledge, refine my skills, and contribute to the ever evolving world of interactive entertainment. I am ready to embrace the challenges, immerse myself in a community of like minded individuals, and grow as an engineer. I am eager for the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications and projects.

 WORK EXPERIENCE

Substitute Teacher — San Luis Coastal Unified School District October 2023 – June 2025

Taught 8 to 10 year olds a summer STEM class, taught students to make games using Scratch. Used patience and fun to teach them variables and graphs. Substitute for all classes between transitional kindergarten and high school seniors, primary maths and computer science.

Line Cook — Bon Temps Creole Cafe July 2019 – June 2020

Cooked a robust menu of breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes. It was a fast-paced environment where consistency and speed were a necessity. Demonstrated problem solving skills to adapt to last minute changes in ingredients and different customer requirements.
